Suzlon is also presently focusing itself on its expansion in the global market.  Hamsen Transmissions  which is  Belgian, and  makes wind turbine gearboxes was sometime back got by the company rotating  blade factory is being built by Suzlon in Minnesota and investment worth 60 million dollars have already been done in Tanjin, China. It is  Tulsi Tanti’s dream to make India the export center of wind power.


Sergey Brin

Sergey Brin is a computer Scientist and an entrepreneur related to the Internet Industry.  He was born in Moscow, Russia in 1973. His birthday falls in August. His father was a Soviet economist as well as mathematician. His family had to leave their country and go to the US to save themselves from being prosecuted by the Jews in 1979. 

Sergey Brin got his degree in maths and computer science from University of Maryland at College Park. After he received the degree he went to Stanford University. At Standford University he got introduced to Larry Page. At that time both of them were completing their doctorate degree in Computer Science.

While they were doing their research project at the University of Stanford, they fashioned a search engine which made a list of all the results that were very popular according to the pages after coming to the conclusion that the one that was used maximum was the one that was very popular. They gave the name “Google” to the engine they used for searching. Google has been derived from a mathematical word googol. It represents the immense information that can be got from the web whatever be the topic. 

The Google as a company was launched in 1998 after raising funds worth one million dollars from friends, investors as well as family. It is after this that Google has now become the most sought after search engine of the world. It gets queries which exceed two hundred million everyday. The head quarter of Google is in California. Raunak Singh

Raunak Singh is one amongst the first industrialists of India which we have had after Independence who became very successful. The Raunaq   Group of Industries was founded by him. Under the Raunaq group, the other major companies that are listed are Apollo Tyres Ltd, Bharat Steel Turbo Ltd, Menarim RAunaq Pharma Ltd, Bharat Gears Ltd, Raunaq Automotive Components Ltd, and Raunaq International Ltd.

 The birth year of Raunaq Singh is 1922. His early life was a struggling one but later he gained an influential stature in the business industry. There was a time when he could not afford more than one paisa per day for food and on the contrary when he took retirement, he had 9000 employees working for his company on payroll. In order to make a mark of the Indian industry on the map of the world, he worked day in and out without getting tired. Raunaq Singh had many important positions which he held in Associations that dealt with trade and industry like the FICCI, ASSOCHAM, EEPC. He was the chair person of Automotive Tyre Manufactures Association and President of Indian Export Organization.

Many awards were won by Raunaq Singh. There were many times when he was called “Mr. Exporter” as he was much into export and export promotion of Indian goods. His work was also acknowledged internationally as he as chosen to be member of International Chamber of Commerce, Paris for three years. He also got awarded nationally and internationally for his skills as an entrepreneur. Raunaq Singh breathed his last on 30th September 2002.


Dr Pratap Reddy

Dr Pratap Reddy is the one who created the Apollo Group of Hospitals. The Apollo Group of hospitals is India’s first commercial hospitals. He made revolutionary changes in the health care situation in India and motivated others too. At present there are about seven hundred and fifty corporate hospitals throughout India.

Dr Pratap Reddy worked as Chief Resident doctor of Worcenter City hospital, US but after he returned to India, he started practicing in Madras with salary as low as three thousand rupees per month.  He got the idea of setting up Apollo Group of Hospitals when one of   to provide all medical facilities that were of high standard, in India also which were affordable for the common man. Through hard work he was able to set up the 1st center in 1983 in Chennai..

The center was followed by the 1st consultancy body. Ever since the setting up of the Apollo Group of Hospitals it has been proved that the infrastructure in India is not less in any way than anywhere else in the world.  The most complicated transplantations of the body organs are done easily in Apollo Hospitals and they specialize in it. There are about twenty two centers of Apollo Hospitals in India and the income that gets generated is about one hundred million US dollars.

 The Apollo Group of Hospitals is now also being spread to other Asian parts. The 1st International Clinic opened in Dubai in 1999 and other countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman and Africa are on the line.


Dr.Kallam Anji Reddy

Born in 1940, Dr.Kallam Anji Reddy finished his Bsc in Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemicals from the Bombay University and later in 1969 finished his Doctrate in Chemical Engineering from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. He served in Indian Drugs & Pharmaceuticals for six years..

To set up the country’s first global pharmaceutical company, he found Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories in 1984. He is the one who gave pharmaceutical sector in India  a new dimension.  Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories soon started establishing new heights in the Pharmaceutical industry in India, after being launched in 1984. He single handedly changed the volume of Indian drug industry by doing a complete changeover from the import dependent phase in the mid 1980’s to being highly self reliant in the mid 1990’s and thereon to being the industry that is export  based. Dr.Reddy’s was the 1st company to embark on discovery of drugs and  research. It later became the 1st non–Japanese pharmaceutical company from the Asian continent to be listed on the NYSE bourses. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories slowly climbed to be India’s 2nd major pharmaceutical company and also the youngest in its peer group by the fiscal year of 2005.

Dr.Reddy is presently serving the P.M’s Council on Industry as well as Trade, representing the Indian Government and also voted for NIPER board .

With his various achievements in the field of Parma, Dr.K.Anji Reddy is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, which include Sir PC Ray Award, twice. Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA)  – Ishidate Award for Pharmaceutical Research in 1998.  Leading business magazine Business India voted him Businessman of the Year in 2001, later he was bestowed with the Achiever of the Year award in the year 2000 by the CHEMTECH Foundation and also the Hall of Fame award which followed in 2005 for his Entrepreneurship, Leadership and thrust on Innovation. In 2001, the Government of India conferred on him the Padma Shri award.


Vijay Mallya

The Chairperson of United Beverages Group of industries is Vijay Mallya. He lately got a new airline launched which is used for the domestic front by the name of Kingfisher Airline. This airline is quite an impression on the people. Vijay Mallya is well known for his colorful and showy standard of living.

Vijay Mallya’s father was Vittal Mallya who was an eminent industrialist.  He took over the United Beverages Company, as chairperson in 1983 and made the company soar high. It is because of his self-motivated leadership, that the company is now a multinational company which has more than 60 companies under it. The United Beverages company has many international companies under it hat.  The business that is handled by the United Beverages company is diverse and ranges from engineering, alcoholic beverages, agriculture, life science information and technology, leisure and chemicals etc.

The Kingfisher Airlines was set up by Vijay MAllya in 2005.  Though it has been only a short period, Kingfisher has made a place for itself in the Airline Industry. Pallonji Shapoori Mistry

Pallonji Shapoori Mistry is an industrialist in the construction business and is many times said to be shy of the media attention. He has 18.5% percent of share in Tata Sons which is one of the companies under the Tata Group of Companies and it is because of his stake that he enjoys benefits from them.

The Chief Executive Officer of the retail arm of the Tata group of companies, Mr. Noel Tata is married to his daughter. Noel Tata and RAtan Tata are half-brothers. Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry is the Chairperson of Shapoorji Pallonji Group of Industries, and also the 5th wealthiest man of India, but he is seen neither by the public nor by the media. The people who work for him have labeled him the faultless man; His acquaintances portray him as modest and inside the Tata Group as” Phantom of Bombay House”

The Mistry’s have been associated with the Tata’s for more than fifty years though they have not been mentioned anywhere in the Tata Group history. The biggest share holder of the Group was the father of Pallonji Mistry’s, Shapoorji who had to fight his way to get some shares of Tata sons. In order to do this he bought the estate of Dinshaw who was solicitor and whose share was equivalent to twelve and half percent of the Companies shares. It was during the period when JRD Tata came that there was uncertainty within the Tata group of which Shapoorji took advantage and bought some Tata members thus making his share increase by 4%. Still the Mistry family was never considered insiders and this continued till Noel Tata who is the step brother of Ratan Tata married the daughter of PAllonji.

At present times Ratan Tata has less than 1% share in the company while PAllonji has 18.35% of share in Tata Sons. When the shares of the TCS were open to the public, Pallonji was the one who benefitted the most. His benefits crossed more than what the Tata companies got. When valuation of his assets was done by the Forbes it was estimated to be around nine thousand two hundred crores. He chose to expand his business internationally by being a silent share holder of his construction group, the Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Apart from Construction the group has now diversified itself into I.T.parks as well as textiles.


N. R. Narayana Murthy

N.R.Narayana is the name of the person who founded Infosys. He is a software engineer and also a business leader of India

He was born in Mysore, Karnataka to a South Indian family in 1946, on the 20th day of August. It was in 1967 that he did  his engineering in Electronics from  National Institute of Engineering, Mysore and  in 1969 he got masters from Indian Institute of Technology , Kanpur. He topped  at both the Institutes.

During the initial stage of his career, he associated himself   to Patni Computer System which is in Pune. It was in Pune that he met his future wife, who was an employee of the Tata’s and who worked at the capacity of Research Associate. His wife’s name is Sudha Murthy and she was brilliant student all through her career. She hails from Mangalore which is also in Karnataka. It was in 1981 that with the help of 6 software professionals that he was able to found Infosys. N.R.NArayan served a term of two years as President of NASSAC.

Mr. Murthy gave his services to Infosys in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer for 20 years. He later handed over the company to Nandan Nilekani who was one of the co-founders of Infosys in 2002. Infosys got itself listed in NASDAQ in 1999. Mr. Murthy is the Chairperson of I.I.M, Ahmedabad as well as I.I.I.T Bangalore. Apart from this he is one of the members of Board of Overseers, Trustee of Singapore Management University, Board University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Trustee of the Cornell University Board, and the Board of Advisors for the William F. Achtmeyer Center for Global Leadership at the Tuck School of Business.

His father’s name was Carl, who was an expert in Computer Science and artificial intelligence while his mother was into computer programming.

Lalit Suri

Lalit Suri – the king of the hotel industry who has remained un-acknowledged. Lalit Suri was born in Rawalpindi which is now in Pakistan on 15th day of April 1947. The Bharat l chain of hotels is chaired by Lalit Suri. He is the only hotel owner who has a hotel that has more than sixteen hundred rooms. Under the Bharat Group of hotels there are seven hotels which have the Flagship Intercontinental and the Grand hotels in Goa, Srinagar, Khajuraho, Mumbai, Bangalore and Udaipur along with the one in Delhi.

The Midday newspaper which was circulated in Delhi was also owned by Mr. Lalit Suri. Mr. Suri had done his schooling and college from St. Columbus and Sri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi. During state level championships, Mr. Suri represented his school as well as college for swimming and athletics. During the initial period of his career he manufactured vehicle bodies as he was a trained automobile engineer. He built his 1st hotel in 1988 in Delhi which proved to be a turning point of his life after which he never looked back.

Bharat Group of Hotels have invested about five hundred crores in Goa as well Mumbai on properties since some years. They have also taken on lease Ashok Hotel of Bangalore for thirty years, and the investment that was done was forty two crores for lease and another forty crores for renovating it. Lalit Suri wished to expand his business for which he has chosen places like Ahmedabad Amritsar and Jaipur and negotiated the deal while search is still going on for the perfect location in Hyderabad as well as Chennai. The hotels will first be built in  Ahmedabad, Jaipur and then Amritsar where additional four hundred to six hundred  rooms will be added,  next it will be done in Hyderabad and  Chennai  where the number of 5 star deluxe rooms shall increase by five hundred more.

Apart from being a booming businessman, Mr. Suri was a lover of art and a passionate traveler. He was the Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha.
